Maysara Winery was established in 1997 by Moe and Flora Momtazi. Over the course of the last 22 years, their family has turned 532 acres of abandoned wheat fields into a thriving Biodynamic vineyard which produces beloved and award-winning wines year after year. Truly a family business, all three Momtazi daughters continue to be involved in the production and marketing of Maysara wines.
“We believe that 90% of winemaking takes place in the vineyard. Because of this, we have held ourselves to a strict form of land use acting as stewards of the land in order to nurture and reap the rewards naturally." —The Momtazi Family
Located in the beautiful McMinnville AVA, a sub appellation of the Willamette Valley nestled in the foothills of Oregon’s Coast Range, Maysara’s vineyards benefit from a unique climate characterized by warmer days, cooler nights, and less precipitation during harvest season. In keeping with Biodynamic philosophy which looks at a farm (or vineyard) as a holistic organism, the Momtazis practice strict organic cultivation techniques such a composting, cover cropping and green manuring. Planting takes place in sync with the lunar cycles, and medicinal herbs are applied in homeopathic amounts to maintain the health and vitality of the vines.
The Momtazi’s believe “A farmer is comparable to the conductor of an orchestra — bringing all the individual forces and energies into harmony by playing the right notes at the right time.” This spirit is evident in the quality and complexity of Maysara wines.
