Congratulations to our winery partner Mas Igneus, who received some impressive new ratings from the prestigious Wine Spectator. The “Renéixer” Blanc scored 92 points, with the following review: "Rich yet firm, this muscular white offers pear, heather, lanolin, and mineral flavors. More savory than fruity, but still generous and long. Harmonious an distinctive. Merlot, Garnatxa Blanca and Garnatxa Negra. Drink now through 2024." The “Renéixer” Negre also scored highly with 91 points: "Blackberry and plum flavors mingle with cola, licorice and clove notes in this expressive red. Generous but racy, with light, firm tannins and vibrant acidity. Garnatxa Negra, Cabernet Sauvignon, Carignan and Syrah. Drink now through 2028."
The leading producer of organic wines in the Priorat DOQ, Mas Igneus was founded in 1997 by brothers Josep Maria & Toni of Albet i Noya. They were the first organic project to begin producing wine in the region, and in 2004, the current modern winery was built and Toni Albet became the sole owner.
While the steep slopes make weed control difficult, the Priorat’s soils and climate make it an ideal candidate for organic viticulture: The low rainfall, low humidity, high temperatures and good ventilation make fungal diseases very rare. Today, Toni tends the vines and oversees the winemaking with the help of his son, Adria. They manage three separate and distinct parcels comprising 11 hectares of vineyards across the steep slopes of Priorat.
